Ok... I have been wanting to try this recipe that I found in the October 2013 Country Living Magazine. The article featured heirloom desserts. This Buttermilk Pie looked devine. So this evening I got my self all of the ingredients and made the pie. It took well over 2 hours to make this thing.
When the pie was almost done baking, the smell in the house was like heaven. I took the pie out and was very excited because it looking just like the picture to me. My beautygirl was very excited to taste it. We cut ourselves generous portions. And ....Um.... this is not what the smell tells me I will be tasting. It is bland and yucky. We tried to salvage the pie by putting apple pie filling on top. And it did help, but not enough to enjoy the thing.
I had my husband try it..... He would not even finish his piece. He said "I think something is missing." I did not know what because I had followed the recipe very closely. He said, "did you put sugar in it?" Of course I did. When I made the crust I distinctly remember measuring out the sugar. But.... Not when I put the filling in. I FORGOT THE SUGAR!
Now I will need to make the pie again to see if it is yummy. It Looks beautiful.... I hope the second time is the charm.
To be continued...
If you want to try the recipe, let me know how it worked for you. Here is the link.Buttermilk Pie
(I did have to make a substitution because the original recipe calls for nuts. We have nut allergies at our house and so those are a no-no for us.)

Sticky Zebra Popcorn - Recipe
This is my Mothers day gift to my Mommy!
Sticky Zebra
Popcorn
Some people lovingly call this Satan’s mix, because the temptation to eat it is TOO great. It is best eaten the day it is made, which is not a problem. I don’t make it too often because I cannot stop eating it!
5 quarts
popped popcorn, with un-popped kernels removed (3/4 cup kernels)
1 10 oz.
mini marshmallows
¼ teaspoon
salt
1 cup butter
1 1/3 cup
granulated white sugar
½ cup light
corn syrup
1 teaspoon
vanilla extract
1 cup white
chocolate chips
1 cup milk
chocolate chips
1. Put popcorn in a stove top popper that
stirs as it pops. Heat corn over
med-high heat. Stir constantly until the
popping stops (be careful not to leave it on too long – it can burn), take out
any un-popped kernels. Pour into large bowl and mix in marshmallows. Set aside
2. In medium sauce pan, over med-high
heat, combine salt, butter, sugar and corn syrup and bring to a boil; stir for
3 minutes, stirring constantly.
3. Remove from heat, add vanilla (it
will bubble a little, be careful)
4. Pour over popcorn mixture, stir till
marshmallows are melted and everything is coated well.
5. Spread concoction out on wax paper
6. Melt white chocolate with a ¼ teaspoon
of vanilla in the microwave for 30 second intervals. Stir, and repeat until the chocolate is
melted (it may not be runny, but spreadable).
Spread over coated popcorn.
7. Melt milk chocolate with a ½ teaspoon
of olive oil in the microwave for 30 second intervals. Stir and repeat until chocolate is
melted. This one is runnier. Drizzle over coated popcorn.
8. If your kitchen is hot at this point,
the chocolate will not harden. So I
stick it in the fridge to solidify the chocolate.
9. Then eat it! Or share it! Yummy!

Caramel Apple Wedges
YUMMY!!
I had to make a treat to take to our annual Pumpkin Carving Party. I decided that I really wanted to have Caramel apples, but I did not want to take WHOLE apples. Usually, some or all of the treat gets wasted in the "whole" form. So I decided to try caramael apple wedges.
I took:
Caramels (one 14oz. package)
Apples - some granny smith, some gala (about 10 to 12 medium sized)
1 tbsMilk
lemon juice
craft sticks (or I like to call them Popsicle sticks)
wax paper
First prepare the apples:
Cut into fourth's
cut out the core parts (seeds, stem, etc)
dip exposed edges into lemon juice
(you could skip the lemon juice if you don't care that the apples turn brown)
line the apples in a few rows on top of wax paper on a baking sheet
Next, the caramel.....
unwrap an entire package of Kraft caramels. (you can use another brand if you like, but I like the taste and texture of Kraft.)
place unwrapped caramels into a 2 cup glass measuring container.
(you need the whole thing full up to the 2 cup mark with caramels)
add one tablespoon of milk
microwave in thirty second intervals, stirring at each break.
repeat until the caramel and milk are well blended and smooth.
Now, the fun part!
Drizzle the caramel over the apple wedges ( mine would have worked better if I had let the caramel cool a little... it would have stuck to the surface better...but it did not effect the taste!)
poke the Popsicle stick into the middle of the wedge.
Pop into the fridge to solidify the caramel.
Tad-ah....Yummy. I only tasted a half a dozen before I decide to share with my kids.
