Car Orginization

So, I have something to confess.   I live in my car - mostly.
Have you ever been driving along and tried to find something under the car seat, just to be frustrated by all of the trash, junk, random shoe and flashlight that you find.  But you could not locate that item you REALLY needed.  I have ..... over and over again. I was fed up!  How could I compartmentalize my things, and still have easy access.  Then the light donned.
                                                             Plastic pencil boxes.

This has been so handy to grab a box, Find what ever I need, AND be able to put it back where I need it to go!

Tada!

Buttermilk Pie....Yumm?

Ok... I have been wanting to try this recipe that I found in the October 2013 Country Living Magazine.  The article featured heirloom desserts.   This Buttermilk Pie looked devine.  So this evening I got my self all of the ingredients and made the pie.  It took well over 2 hours to make this thing.

When the pie was almost done baking, the smell in the house was like heaven.  I took the pie out and was very excited because it looking just like the picture to me.  My beautygirl was very excited to taste it.  We cut ourselves generous portions.   And ....Um.... this is not what the smell tells me I will be tasting.  It is bland and yucky.  We tried to salvage the pie by putting apple pie filling on top.  And it did help, but not enough to enjoy the thing.

I had my husband try it..... He would not even finish his piece.  He said "I think something is missing."  I did not know what because I had followed the recipe very closely.  He said, "did you put sugar in it?"  Of course I did. When I made the crust I distinctly remember measuring out the sugar.   But.... Not when I put the filling in.  I FORGOT THE SUGAR!

Now I will need to make the pie again to see if it is yummy.  It Looks beautiful.... I hope the second time is the charm.

To be continued...

If you want to try the recipe, let me know how it worked for you.  Here is the link.Buttermilk Pie

(I did have to make a substitution because the original recipe calls for nuts.  We have nut allergies at our house and so those are a no-no for us.)

What's up, Buttercup... Chandelier

Another of the old ugly lamps has been transformed into this amazing little light.

In this cheeky yellow, she almost sings to you.  I just love the way she lights up a room.   It is also cool that she has 3 different light settings.  She has just the flame setting, the spotlight setting, or both!

Shirt redo - From sloppy to stylish- Multi color plaid

So, I have been on this re-do, up-cycle kick.  Recently, I have been remaking old sloppy shirts into ones that fit me just right!  Here is an example of a shirt I recently remade.
Before:
multicolor plaid front

multicolor plaid back
This shirt had some good bones, the collar and front tucks were a step in the right direction.  I removed the sleeves and cut out the excess on the sides.  I then took the tucks that were already there and took them all the way down, front and back.

Shirt back, tucks running the length.

To give the shirt more interest, I made the tucks in the front into Mexican tucks. (Which means the are sewn opposite to give a wavy illusion to the fabric).

After that was done, I cut off the sleeves to make them short, but I retained the cuff.  Why do more work than necessary.  I finished all of the seams and tacked down the collar.

I wear this one all the time now.
